Louis Vuitton 2012 Fly Back Tambour
The Louis Vuitton-produced Tambour line of watches are presented by the French luxury label in extremely limited quantities with top-caliber Swiss movements. The latest offering in the 2012 Tambour line is the Fly-Back Automatic Chronograph, culling inspiration from military pilot watches from the ’60s. Mounted on an alligator and calfskin band, the Tambour 44mm stainless steel casing contains contrasting white and yellow hands with a textured black dial reminiscent of the circular scale radars found in airplane cockpits. The Fly-Back name comes from the watch’s “Fly Back” function which allows for a quick-reset and starting of a second chronograph at the push of a single button. The watch itself is powered by the LV 137 Swiss movement, and features a visible 42-hour power reserve positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock. Only 888 pieces will be made, so check with your local Louis Vuitton flagship store for availability.

The “FLY BACK” Tambour Automatic Chronograph is characterised by a strong design: a tarmac-coloured black dial, two auxiliary counters (30-minute totaliser and small second hand) evoking the military chronographs of the sixties, and a bright yellow central hand allowing you to read sequentially the seconds that have passed on the chronograph on a double circular scale reminiscent of the radars found in aeroplane cockpits.

Prized by pilots for their navigation calculations, the Fly Back function allows you to reset the timing underway and restart another instantly by pressing and immediately releasing the reset push button, without needing to activate the “stop” push button.

To make reading the time easier, all of the time indications (index, hollow central hands, and small second counter) are made of shiny black steel, while the Fly Back chronograph instrumentation is adorned in yellow, a colour linked to the Maison’s history (sewing thread for fine leather goods) and very widely used in the world of aeronautics.

Powered by the LV 137 automatic calibre manufactured in the Dubois-Dépraz Swiss workshops, the “FLY BACK” Tambour Automatic Chronograph offers a power reserve of 42 hours and features an ingenious date window positioned between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock.

A professional instrument produced in a limited, numbered edition of 888 pieces, which is housed in the famous Tambour 44 mm-diameter steel case.

Equipped with a rubber-overmolded winding crown for optimal ergonomics, the “FLY BACK” Tambour Automatic Chronograph is mounted on a two-material leather strap (alligator and calfskin with a yellow calfskin lining and yellow signature stitch).
